Meet a bend or slower traffic and giving up half a second to keep the line finishes sooner than barrelling in and losing the rhythm to a collision. Average speed beats top speed in this lane, every time.

Choosing a lane early is what separates comfortable play from ordinary play. Rather than swerving at the last moment, move across while the gap is still far away; done consistently, a lap needs almost no braking at all and the time drops more than any amount of practice at braking well ever would.
